Torgiano, whose origins are that of an ancient pre-Roman and Roman settlement, is a fortified village, placed at the meeting of the Chiascio and Tevere rivers, surrounded by hills rich in vineyards and olive groves. Right outside the walls, going along viale della Rimembranza, between two cypresses rows, the Torre Baglioni, in sandstone; at the top a Guelph Battlements supported by brackets. Still along the avenue the church of Santa Maria dell' Olivello with precious canvases from the XVI and XVII Centuries.
Inside the walls, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, from via Mazzini, the Oratorio della Misericordia, and the close Pieve di San Bartolomeo, rebuilt in the XVIII Century on a XIII Century parish church; inside an exquisite Cristo Deposto dalla Croce (Deposition of Christ) (1588) by Felice Pellegrini, of the school of Federico Barocci. Along the Corso the Palazzo Comunale, in a XX Century style. Following the Baroque Palazzo Graziani Baglioni, Summer residence of a noble Family dating back to the end of the XVII Century. In the “fondachi” (storehouses) of Palazzo Graziani Baglioni the MUVIT- Museo del vino (Wine Museum), conceived and made by Giorgio and Maria Grazia Lungarotti. At the end of Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, the former Oratorio of Sant'Antonio; in its external perimeter sculptural elements and frescos from the XVI Century, among which a Madonna con Bambino (Madonna with Child) attributed to the school of Domenico Alfani.
Going upwards along via Garibaldi, in an ancient building, formerly an oil mill, the MOO- Museo dell'Olivo e dell’Olio (Olive and Oil Museum). In Piazza della Repubblica the MACC- Museo d’arte ceramica contemporanea (Museum of Contemporary Ceramics). In the Historic Centre, well settled, several contemporary artworks, rendering homage to the origins and history of Torgiano.
