Porta Trasimena - Trasimena Gate, also known as Gate of San Luca or of the Madonna della Luce

Also known as “di San Luca” or “della Madonna della Luce”
It is one of the main Gates of the Etruscan city, built around the III century B.C.; original up to the transom, with pointed arch of the XIV century. It is West-oriented, towards the Trasimeno Lake, from which the name of the Door. It is also called “di S. Luca” and “della Madonna della Luce” for the proximity with the two churches.
Above the arch, in the exterior, a sculpted cross and below that, an half-moon. In the left side, a travertine lion.
