Nobile Collegio del Cambio

Between 1452 and 1457, this part of Palazzo dei Priori was given to the Moneychangers’ Guild.

The entrance is through the Sala dei Legisti (Jurists’ Hall), with the wooden counters, carved and inlaid by Giampiero Zuccari (1615-1621), after the Sala delle Udienze (Audience Chamber), destined for the meetings and the audience of the public. The inlaid wooden furniture are by Antonio da Mercatello and Domenico del Tasso (1490-1501). The walls are frescoed by Pietro Vannucci, better known as Perugino (and assistants) between 1498 and 1500, one of the most famous Renaissance art example, inspired by an iconographic programme according to the Neo–Platonic philosophic ideas. In The Decoration of Houses  by Edith Wharton these frescos are defined as one of the "three perfect ceilings of the world" along with those by Mantegna in Mantua and those by Araldi in Parma. The works are completed by the self portrait of Perugino, in a frame.

Next to it, the San Giovanni Battista chapel frescoed by Giannicola di Paolo (1513-1528), pupil of Perugino, covered in lapis lazuli and gold.
