In 1819, it hosts the Austrian Prince von Metternich. The palace, former seat of Literature and Philosophical Studies department of the Università degli Studi di Perugia, is now seat of the Regional Government of Umbria.

The main floor is frescoed with a perspectival evocative framing technique and mythological subjects. In the main hall, Francesco Appiani painted Jupiter striking Pride carriage with lightning.
