SSML – Language Mediation Perugia
Via Villa Glori n. 7/c – (Case Bruciate)
University and Higher Education Institutions
The Higher Education School for Linguistic Mediators of Perugia (SSML) started in 1976 with the name of Scuola Superiore Europea per Interpreti e Traduttori (European Higher Education Institution for Interpreters and Translators). The Starting aim is that of giving international standing to the young students and that of starting the training for two professional figures at that time little known: the interpreter and the translator, today named as Linguistic mediators. The constant growth, both on a qualitative level as well as on operational one, has attracted several students, both from Umbria and from other regions; the SSML has been recognized, after the positive pronouncement by the Consiglio Universitario Nazionale the possibility of awarding degrees with legal value of Linguistic Mediator (see Decreto 19 May 1989 by the Education Ministry). It is though the Decreto 31 July 2003 that is pivotal, since it equalize the SSML to State Universities.
The SSML has doubled its work to form the future linguistic mediators both on a cultural point of view and on the professional one, providing always modern means of learning. Today the SSML grants several employment opportunities, starting from freelance activities (interpreter, translator, Tourist Guide) to public (Administrative entities, Municipalities, Regioni, Consulates, Embassies, Courts, Army) and private employment (firms working with Foreign States, Shipping Companies, Airports, tour operator, Travel agencies, Legal Firms, Translation Firms).
