The District, known also as ‘borgo bello’ (beautiful district – for the beauty of the Benedictine and Dominican settlements, of the abundance in art and green areas), south-east oriented, takes its name from its patron Saint San Pietro.San Pietro is also the district’s ensign, together with the crossed keys, that replaced the more ancient lion and stone in remembrance of the ‘litomachia’ (stone fights) that were held on the Battlefield (today’s Via XIV Settembre). Its representative colour is yellow, the colour of the wheat that used to come into the city through this gate.
