Audiobooks and Braille books collections

Opened in the ‘70s, the Sergio Agabiti Library promotes the cultural and social integrations of the blind people of Umbria, filling the gap of the vacancy in Perugia of a library specific for this type of handicap.

Its patrimony constitutes of braille books and audiobooks, on cassettes or CDs.

The catalogue gathers works of Italian and foreigner literatures, fiction and other topics: the latest audio productions concerns works of local nature, stories of Perugia, Umbrian traditions and costumes, to give the Italian blind people the chance  to know better the treasures and beauties of Umbria.

The Library answers to all possible requests by the enlisted and students of public schools.
The scarcity of funds don’t allow to employ professionals for the recording: those are made by volunteers, chosen among people used in reading.

Perugia Municipal libraries cooperate with this institution:
_Augusta Library donated several audiobooks recorded by volunteers
_San Matteo degli Armeni promotes the project 'Leggi per me' (Read for me), for recording audiobooks.

Assisi Municipality promoted and financed a tourist guide of the city in braille and in enlarged characters, to give all with impaired  vision people the possibility of closely seeing the particulars of many historic monuments in Assisi

The Library is in the same site of the Provincia of Perugia section of the association Unione Italiana dei Ciechi e degli Ipovedenti o.n.l.u.s.
