The Church of San Francesco, part of a convent complex built between the XIII and XIV centuries was a Franciscan settlement until 1654. The Façade, lowered if compared with its gothic origins, is in stripes of white and pink stone; it shows an ogive portal and the rose window is close to the roof limit. The interior, with cross vaults, has a single nave.
During the XVII and XVIII centuries the church was enriched with stucco embellishments, among which the baroque altars, that have been removed 1968 showing underneath frescos dating from the XIV and XV centuries.
The Church shows today various paintings, among which: a painting on wood by the school of Bartolomeo Caporali of the XV century; another one, cross shaped, from the XIII century, on which the image of Christ in the XVI Century has been painted over an original one; a Madonna among Saints by Orlando Merlini; a canvass from the XVII century, attributed to Giovanni Antonio Scaramuccia, depicting the Virgin Mary with child among angels and saints; a canvas by Benedetto Bandiera from 1606 depicting the Majesty among Sant’Anna, San Francesco and Sant’Elena; some canvasses from the XVIII century attributed to the painter from Corciano Giuseppe Laudati.
The Museum-church is today an exhibition area for events of the Culture Area of Corciano Municipality.
