Chiesa of San Benedetto

Via della Canapina

A rare architectural typology

Romanic tower-structure church built before 1027 and annexed to San Pietro Church. It leans against the Etruscan walls with a protruding apse that seems suspended and has a structure with overlapping halls.

About the history we only know that it belonged to the Cavalieri Gerosolimitani (Knights of Malta) around the end of the XIII Century.

From 1777 it was enclosed to the Benincasa Conservatory, boarding school for orphan and poor girls.

It is possible to see only the exterior of the church from via Canapina.
