Strongly wanted by the Mayor, Vittoria Ferdinandi, and the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Marco Pierini, the exhibition is a first step in the process of development of the status of Palazzo della Penna from being a civic museum to a “Centre of Contemporary arts”, according to the political lines of the new Municipal Council.

The starting point is therefore a focus on Dorothea Lange, author of Migrant Mother (1936) – one of the most famous photographs of last century – an unchallenged protagonist of documentary photographs on the XX Century.

Curated by Walter Guadagnini and Monica Poggi, the exhibition consists of more than 130 photos telling ten years of work, meaningful in the development of this extraordinary author. The exhibition is focused on the ‘30s and ‘40s, period in which she witnesses the epochal events that changed the economic and social structure of the United States.
