From Piazza Fortebraccio, where along with the Etruscan Arch (1) there is also Palazzo Gallenga Stuart (2), home of the University for Foreigners, go up Corso Garibaldi, which has a number of churches and monasteries, until reaching the fascinating Church of San Michele Arcangelo (3) and the Sant’Angelo gate tower, now the Museum of the musical instruments (4). Its terrace offers a spectacular panoramic view of the city.
Outside the gate is the former monastery of San Matteo degli Armeni (5), now the library of the Aldo Capitini Foundation Study Center.
Walking up, within a few minutes you can reach the convent of San Francesco al Monte (6), known as Monteripido, with its prestigious library (1754), cloisters and a panoramic view.
Coming down from the gate tower and following a beautiful stretch of medieval walls, you come to the former church of San Francesco delle Donne, the home of the Giuditta Brozzetti Museum & Atelier of hand weaving (7). Return towards Piazza Ermini and go back up the Via dell’Acquedotto and Via Appia. From Via Appia, follow Via dell’Eremita and Via San Sebastiano to get to Via Santa Elisabetta for visiting the Roman mosaic of Orpheus (8). Return to Piazza Fortebraccio.
